Obere Steigen vineyard
This relatively large growing area by Traisentaler standards is to be found in the village of Reichersdorf, where the vineyards lie in small terraces against the slope of the mountain. The subsoil consists mainly of the regions characteristic limestone soil, blanketed by various impressive layers of sandy loam top soil. This makes it an ideal site to produce particularly good Grüner Veltliner typical of this varietal. The wines harvested from this site distinguish themselves on the palate through their marked peppery tang and juiciness, making them a real joy to drink.An unusual addition to this location is the underground tunnel system created in the 17th century which was built to serve as an escape tunnel during times of war and which is, for the most part, well preserved!
