In Austria, a sunny April ensured that the vines were able to develop quickly. Temperatures were almost ideal into the fall: the summer was not too hot, and in September, sunshine hours were 15% above average throughout Austria. However, the Wachau region in particular had to contend with hail damage, and the abundant rain during the harvest period brought with it the risk of rot and fungal diseases. The high quality of the grapes that could be brought in despite these challenges, however, gives hope for similarly great wines as last year, with harmony and longevity.
